A POST ABOUT INDIA POST …

These days we use a post office to pay telephone bills , maintain a saving account ( not many do this given the interest rate ) and whole lot of other activities other than posting a letter . I examined a closely at this trend when i was alone , i was actually getting into a couple of post offices for the past two days and finally accomplished my mission .

So these were my observations

1.No one wants to write letters these days , the art of writing is losing its sheen given the advent of email and stuffs .

2.People do not want to waste their money and time , given that one needs to spend money to buy a post card or paste a stamp of  a specified denomination on a covering letter

and talking about precious time , one might wait for a person to reply to him after he gets his letter .

3.Maybe a speedpost a novel idea of india post is really famous these days , given the letter reaches a person within 48 hours , but still the cost involved ahh… talking tough ( i spent 25 bucks to send an application form to Delhi via speed post , the lady in the chair was not sure whether my letter would reach the place given the flight lands correctly in Delhi as it fogged off daily !!!)

4.The postal department cannot be blamed given they are trying their best by introducing all novel ideas , but still people do not want to use them

You may be wondering why i am saying all these .

I had to apply for a top exam in the country , no it is not the JEE or any other college entrance , it was the UPSC where i had to apply for the Civil Services Prelims , i had completely forgot about the issue of the application forms  and one sudden day realised that i needed to apply given there were only 5 more days left for the last date , so i approached a post office to get the form but sadly returned disappointed that the forms were not available anywhere in Chennai ( oh they say this exam is taken by the future administrators of the country and you do not have an application form to get into the exam )

But i did not lose heart , taken the fact that one should not believe in what others say i stepped into a post office ( believe me they said the post office was ISO 9000 certified , but what is saw was shocking , the phone kept ringing and no one in the office bothered to attend , so minding my own business , i asked about the form , the lady gave me stare and gave me the form and sayin 25 rupees in the worst possible tone , i asked her again what 35 rupees , she raised her decibel levels sayin 25 rupees , i got two forms and disappeared from the place .

So here came the basic idea of customer retention , considering your Customer as the king can do wonders for any organization , the way in which the whole episode of getting a simple form which is available in a post office can irritate anybody . That too when a wrong information was given first to me saying the form is not available in Chennai and later get it in a post office which is 8 kilometers from the place where they said the form is not available were indeed shocking .

Maybe India Post is reaching a dead end by just selling stamps and forms , hope they do that properly and praying that my application form reaches correctly in New Delhi through the Speed Post .

POP CORN – AYIRATHIL ORUVAN

This post comes as the first for 2010 also this will be the first post for wordpress directly . So again it is going to be yet another movie review , the movie being the much hyped ” Ayirathil Oruvan ” , i was able to catch up with this movie last saturday (16-1-2010) . The reason i said it was much hyped because it was a Selvaraghavan who really makes movies out of the box , ( 7g rainbow colony , pudhupettai being classic examples ) . This again comes as a very big surprise for the movie goer , this movie cannot be put into any genre , but i chose “Action/Adventure and Historic ” .

The reason i gave historic was because the audience are taken to ancient times ( not ancient in fact ) of the cholas and pandyas period . The disclaimer at the start says it has nothing to do with the stories of pandyas and cholas , so given this one is assured of a story spun in a different way in which one might not have read in any history books ( brave attempt indeed ) .

Karthi has got better after his successful and praised role in paruthiveeran , but his second half performance is clearly overshadowed by reemma sen ( i beleive i got the name rite ) and parthiban . Here again Parthiban recieves a great appreciation from all for his outstanding performance . Andrea has done here role too , her voice in some songs also sounds good .

The story begins with an archaeological team headed by reemma sen , andrea go in search of andrea`s lost father who again turns out to be a archaeologist . karthi accompanies them as a bubbly coolie , his one liners tickles everyone`s funny bone . When they land in the island they jump into a big trouble , many begin to lose their lives ,Andrea knowing the entire dangers of the place guides the rest of the team . The snake part and the quick sand part are very well done and makes the audience awestruck .

Finally the first half which is in fact very well compiled gets over by the three ( karthi , reemma , andrea ) finding the place and the rest ( really that was not shown ) , ” Un mela asaidaan ” sounds different but the dance steps seem to be a bit irritating .

The second half is completely a googly , an unexpected turn of events happens . Reemma claims her to be a queen who had come all the way to recover a lost statue of their empire and Karthi guides the rest of the people to safety along with parthiban fighting against reemma and her forces . Some scenes really stand out , the one notable being karthi involved in the fight against that hulk like guy with a hammer thrower in his hand . Reemma sen has done exceedingly well but can improve a lot on her lip sync as the tamil which is spoken in the second half is completely different .

So the movie ends after seeing blood everywhere and a graphic in the end saying to be continued , maybe the second part will produce a better climax , that is what my assumption is . Selva has been making news recently that this movie seems to be a copy of many hollywood movies , honestly speaking my answer would be No ! just because it takes a lot of courage to show such a story as a movie , well played selvaraghavan …

The loose ends of the movie are

1.The second half , this could have better told really .

2.The climax , they have promised a sequel but this story came to an abrupt end

3.pulling pandyas and cholas into the story , this was not required , there are chances that today`s generation will not be in a position to know what was the exact history .

Maybe this movie can be wathced for 3 hours for sheer art of good story telling and some nice camera work and also hear good tamil after very long time ( excluding some very filthy words throughout the movie )

So this is my rating , i would have given much higher but the second half was a bit off beat i thought

* * *  out of a possible 5

THE END
